In the Spring of 2021, we launched a seminar-style class titled “Racism, Colonialism, and Extraction in the Geosciences,” led by five graduate students: Michaela Fendrock, Lyssa Freese, Mara Freilich, Meghana Ranganathan, and Julia Wilcots. A group of 15-20 graduate students and postdocs met once a week to discuss the readings listed on the syllabus below.
In Spring 2022, we area running the course again, this time focusing on applying the values and ideals discussed in a project of each participants’ choosing. If you are at MIT and interested in getting involved with a future iteration of the course, or if you are looking to design a similar course at a different institution, please feel free to reach out to us at tide.eaps@gmail.com and use this syllabus as a resource.
